Tour Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Ancient Egypt at its Best - Saturday 11th April 2015. Welcome to Egypt and the start of Egyptian adventure Arrive Cairo airport and included transfer to our hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to spend as you please.
  • Day 2 - Pyramids of Giza & Saqqara - Cairo - Aswan. Visit to the famous pyramids and lion-headed Sphinx at Giza Plateau. Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramids are the planet’s oldest tourist attraction! Gaze in awe at Cheops (Khufu) - the largest of the three great pyramids. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks it is thought to have taken more than 20 years to construct. Continuing to Saqqara, we can explore the myriad tombs and temples at this site and see Zhoser’s step pyramid - constructed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect in 2700 BC! Later there is a chance to have dinner before the overnight train to Aswan, 1st class recliner seats. Sleeper cabin upgrade available.
  • Day 3 - Philae Temple - Arrive and check into our hotel. A visit out of town takes us to the mighty High Dam – a modern feat of engineering - creating the world’s largest artificial lake, Lake Nasser! This afternoon's highlight is a leisurely boat trip to Agilika Island for Philae Temple for a guided tour of the romantic Philae Temple - dedicated to the goddess Isis. As the sun sets, free time to shop in the colourful souqs and markets or simply relax and watch an amazing sunset in Egypt's southern most town straddling the River Nile.
  • Day 4-5 - Nile River Cruise - Aswan - Nile felucca cruise. Optional early morning air excursion to famous Abu Simbel, the rock-cut temple of King Ramses II, the Great Builder. This afternoon, we board our Nile felucca for a 2 night voyage downstream on the River Nile. If sailing by felucca is not for you, consider upgrading to a 5 star luxury Nile Cruise with our Nile Cruise Upgrade.
  • Day 6 - Kom Ombo Temple & the Temple of Horus at Edfu - Kom Ombo - Edfu - Luxor. Disembarking in Kom Ombo, we enjoy a guided tour of the Temple of Kom Ombo - dedicated to the crocodile headed god - Sobek and the Temple of Horus at Edfu, before driving north to Luxor. Home of the legendary Valley of the Kings and Temple of Karnak, 4000 year-old Luxor is ancient Egypt at it’s best. Enjoy some rest and relaxation. Tonight, an optional visit is available to the Temple of Luxor, alternatively enjoy the facilities of your hotel.
  • Day 7 - Valley of the Kings - Luxor - Cairo. An early start allows us to avoid some of the fierce midday heat as we venture to the tomb strewn Valley of the Kings. Consider opting to join our hot air ballooning excursion over ancient Thebes - fabulous early in the morning! Highlights of the visit include the Colossi of Memnon, a massive pair of statues that stand silent against the backdrop of history, the Valleys of the Kings and the awesome ramped and colonnaded Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Valley of the Kings is studded with often highly decorated tombs, constructed to once house the regal sarcophagi enclosed mummies of the mighty pharaohs awaiting passage into the after-life. This afternoon after lunch and time to relax we visit the colossal Temple of Karnak, with its stone-columned Hypostle Hall. Tonight, we return by overnight train to Cairo. Sleeper cabin upgrade available.
  • Day 8 - Cairo - Arrival and hotel check-in. Later, we visit the famous Egyptian Museum, famed for the treasures of King Tutankhamen and his famous solid gold funerary mask. This afternoon is free - perhaps spend the remainder of the day exploring Cairo your way
  • Day 9 - Goodbye Egypt & Hello Istanbul! - Sunday 19th April 2015. After hotel checkout onward transfer to the airport. It's goodbye to Egypt and hello Istanbul. Turkish Airlines offers open jaw flights between London, Cairo and Istanbul, check the THY website for more details or we can arrange flights on your behalf! If you provide us with your incoming flight details to Turkey we will be there to meet you at Istanbul airport and transfer you to our hotel. The rest of the day is free, why not explore some of the fantastic city that is Istanbul.
  • Day 10 - Istanbul sights & Bosphorus Cruise - This morning we enjoy a relaxing 2 hour cruise along the Bosphorus Strait. After we'll take a walk through the exotic Egyptian Spice Market before commencing a classic city tour, taking in the Hippodrome area, the stunning Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia - Emperor Justinian's grand basilica (exterior only), Topkapi Palace and the ancient Underground Cistern. Later this afternoon we hone our bargaining skills at the famed Grand Bazaar – one of the largest covered markets in the world, boasting more than 4000 stores and take a walk through the exotic Egyptian Spice market. Opt to further explore the city by night or return to our hotel with your guide for a little R&R.
  • Day 11 - Pamukkale - This morning we say goodbye to Istanbul and start to travel south towards Pammukale. On the way we stop for an informative visit to a Turkish carpet weaving and manufacturing house.
  • Day 12 - Trevantine Pools and Ephesus - Pammukale - Kusadasi. Pammukale is one of Turkey’s finest natural wonders. You can take a walk throught this unusual site famous for its cascading thermal pools and striking appearance. Today we will also visit the Roman Hierapolis on top of the pools before heading over to Ephesus. Ephesus is regarded as one of the most well preserved classical cities in the Western Med. Before our final journey into coastal Kusadasi, we visit a high grade leather garment house.
  • Day 13 - Ayvalik and the ruins of Pergamum - This morning we begin to head north towards Izmir/Ayvalik. On the way we pay a visit to the breath taking Roman ruins of Pergamum. Set on the top of a steep hillside we get to explore these as well as the neighbouring asclepion (ancient hospital).
  • Day 14 - Troy & ANZAC Cove - We make an early start this morning beginning our final drive towards Gallipoli. Stopping enroute to visit the famous wooden horse of Troy. Next we jump aboard the ferry and cross to the Gallipoli Peninsular. Once in Gallipoli we embark upon an informative guided tour of the area. Taking in evocative war memorials and original trenches.. Tonight we enjoy a delicious Turkish BBQ to commemorate ANZAC Eve. Wrap up warm and pick yourself a great spot for the evening as we settle down for the night at the atmospheric ANZAC Eve vigil.
  • Day 15 - ANZAC Day 2015 - A very early start this morning for the Dawn Service. A bugle is sounded at first light and the memorial service begins. Once this has finished everyone is free to pay their respects to other parts of the cove. Lone Pine (Australian Memorial) has the next memorial service and Chunuk Bair (New Zealand Memorial) an hour after. If you want to attend the New Zealand service it is advised that you head straight there as it is a little bit further to get to. This afternoon we head back to Istanbul arriving in the late evening.
  • Day 16 - Istanbul - Your tour concludes after breakfast. Hotel check out and make your own way to the airport. We hope you have had a wonderful ANZAC Day 2015 experience.
